Notes for HARRIET BELCHER: Harriet Belcher Grider was left a widow when her husband Wm HenryGrider was killed during the Civil War. She was left with six daughters and one son to raise. TheGrider Farm was adjacent to the Belcher property, and when Harriet's father, John Belcher, diedabt 1864, the Belcher property was divided equally between John Belcher's eight children. Harrietmanaged to buy the pieces of property from her brothers and sisters, and combined the Belcherproperty and the Grider property.
This combined Belcher/Grider property on Meshack Creek has never beensold and is today the property of Harriet Belcher Griders descendants. The "Homeplace" onMeshack Creek has been granted Kentucky State Historical Farm Status and is one of the itemsfeatured in the Historic Farms of Ky Book.
